- How could you save your marriage? By working on yourself.
- How could you get a better job? By working on yourself.
- How could you be a better parent? By working on yourself.
- How could you have better health? By working on yourself.
- How could you have more money, better friends, and better opportunities in life? By working on yourself.
You see, what you are is what you will get in life. If you’re an unpleasant person, you would have an unpleasant life. If you’re a worry-wart, then your life would be filled with anxiety. If you neglect your health, then you will always have health problems.
But what if you could actually change the person you are? What would you think would happen to you?
We don’t think about working on ourselves. We work hard on our jobs, work hard watching T.V., work hard trying to serve others, work hard on numerous projects. But we BARELY work on ourselves.
Think about it. When you get up in the morning, what is the first thing you do? You go pee, right? Then what’s the second thing you do? Look in the mirror and clean out the eye boogers. Then what? You head to the kitchen looking for something to eat or drink, watch traffic on the news, hit the shower, get ready for work, get in the car and start driving.
During the day, you’re at work (or school). You spend the entire day focused on work (or school). Then you come home, chill at the T.V., eat some food, go to the bed, and wake up to do it all over again.
At what time did you actually spend working on yourself during that entire time?
While we’re spending a tremendous amount of energy on other things, we spend MAYBE a fraction of our energy on ourselves. Heck, we probably don’t spend ANY energy on ourselves. That is why we are unhealthy, bitter, depressed, hopeless, and struggling with bad habits.
If we took ALL the energy that we spend on other things and direct that energy to US, man, think about how awesome we could be! Think about all the things we can become and all the opportunities that could flow our way.
If you want to work hard in life, then work hard on yourself. Once you start changing, everything else will fall into place. You will become a magnet for better things just because you devoted your life to making yourself better and better everyday.
